Belief Is My Armor

Belief is powerful. I think John Mayer had it right when he referred to it as “armor.” Something of belief is the soul’s steel. In a topsy-turvy world bent on subjugation, oppression, and intolerance, belief is the thing that allows one to hold strong to faith, principle, and hope. Tonight I affirm belief is my bedrock when storms assail me.

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.
Psalm 27:13

I can face hard things when I believe I can and will overcome. Belief is beyond a feeling. It is a deep knowing that cannot be quantified. It is a rising faith in moments where life deals its most crushing blows. Belief is my armor. It keeps me connected to life, hope, and God. It moves me to act with bold confidence. Fear is no match against the sharp edged sword of belief. Excuses can’t make it when belief chooses forward movement. Belief makes me possible, and that is a good thing.

Friends hold on to what you believe to be true. Do not be discouraged, but hold on to the hope you have. Though the world may thrash against you, don’t back away. Stand your ground, and keep on believing.

This is day 15 of my 31 Days of Affirmation. In this series I’ll affirm hope, faith, truth, and encouragement even when life is troubling. Particularly the series ponders what it means to hold on to those things that are good, right, noble, honorable, true, and lovely even when life isn’t so pretty. You can read all the series posthere. I hope you’ll be encouraged.
