Death and Hope in the Easter King

14. April 2017 Holy Week 9

Today’s Holy Week reflection is a poem about Good Friday and what Jesus came to do. I pray it encourages you.

Humble savior wrapped in human flesh
A man divine who lowered himself
To raise us up to heaven
Easter King, I see you
Hanging on a bloody cross

God made flesh and bone
Has dwelt among us
Performing miracles
Redeeming time
Restoring dignity
Always speaking identity
Easter King, I hear you
Whisper heaven’s sweetest refrain

The violent wounding pulsing
His body from crown to precious feet
He has become the sacrifice for us
The Son, innocent & beloved of God,
Was pierced, whipped, tortured, beaten, bleeding
All for love
All for restoration
All for redeeming God’s family
Easter King, I accept you
The cross is the final word

This Rock has become our cornerstone
Body broken, body bloodied, blood spilling
Down, down, down like oil reviving every soul
All for love
All for restoration
All for redemption
This is enough
Oh, Easter King, you’ve come
Unafraid, relentless, bold, and brave
This finished work lives on in every heart
That returns to you today

Sovereign Savior wrapped in the beauty of holiness
A Son divine who lowered himself
To raise us up to be with Him in heaven
Easter King, I behold you
Face to face, I will not walk away
I was dead and empty but now you’ve made me come alive
Easter King, I’m choosing you
Today.

Marvia, your poem and beautiful and so full of hope! Just before I read your post here I was reflecting on the Five Minute Friday word which is “empty” and I wrote a haiku poem. Then I realized it goes right along with your theme today! I had just read a previous post of yours and I guess I was just inspired!

    Blessings to you!
