A Daughter and Adoption

Creating art in various forms cannot always be clearly defined or restrained. We can create art with our words, images, colors, brushes, and even music. I like to use all of these forms. Each one allows me to use my voice differently. Today isn’t so much about the words as it is about contemplating the meaning of the Word. I respond today with art journaling one of my favorite verses in the bible.

I find illustrating what I read in the bible helps it take deeper root. It gives me a way to see differently when my rational mind does not comprehend. Sometimes, God speaks truth to my heart in pictures, and my soul understands. Maybe you’ve experienced that too.

In those moments I write or draw what I’m trying to understanding. For this moment I’m pondering these words:

The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17

I may not “see” God, but that doesn’t mean He isn’t present in my life. When I think of being God’s beloved, I am amazed how present God is, how with-us He really is. Even if we are breaking down in heart-cracking sobs or spilling unintelligible prayers, God is with us.

As the beloved, we are not without hope. We have been adopted, accepted, and made God’s sons and daughters. We belong. Part of that belonging includes the song of God sung over us in hours in which we’re unaware. As children of God, we are invited to experience the ardent love of God, His gladness, and His peace. These are immutable gifts because God is immutable. He hasn’t changed, nor has He changed His mind about you.

You, beloved, are precious in His sight. Let that rest deep in your being. You ARE loved, dearly loved. He won’t stop loving you, and there’s nothing you can do to make Him stop loving you. God is immutable. His character does not change. He does not change. His love does not change.

my prayer for compline hour

Creator God,
Here I am.
You do not tire of my voice.
You are not vexed by my soul’s need.
I hear these words that you sing songs over me.
Open my soul to hear your lullaby.
Open my eyes to see you even
when the fog of life is overwhelming.

Immutable God, you never change.
For this I am grateful.
You know my heart is sometimes fickle.
Show me mercy yet again.
God, give me grace.

Father, whose love does not wan,
Keep me as the apple of your eye.
I’ll hold your truths as a mirror
That I might see myself in You.

Your unassailable presence resides in me.
God of all mercy, this is sovereign grace
And a gift most undeserving, but still
You choose relentless pursuit of me.
Oh, human heart, run to the Savior and
Be made well. Be made whole.

Creator, I fix my eyes on you once more
Here in the quiet place,
My soul waits for you.
I hear the whisper of your holy song
Drawing near again to me.
So let it be.
Restore me to intimate
Connection with you.
So let it be.

May you know the benevolent love of God.

Thank you for reminding me that He doesn’t tire of my voice. Sometimes I feel stuck in a place of wanting when I long for contentment. It is well with my soul this morning…because of Jesus. Because of your words and images. Thank you Marvia.

Yes and amen, Lisha, I fight for words many times. I long to hear Him too. He will come. His grace is vast. Thank you for reading and offering holy space.
